“An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 611 of October 31.”

The crash involved a grey Vauxhall Insignia and according to residents the driver of the car was not hurt and fled the scene.

Another woman told Spotted in Ely that “it was two adults and two 16 year olds; my 16-year-old got in the car after being offered a lift home”.

One other woman said she was thankful to those who checked on her elderly grandmother who lives next to the damaged houses.

“Residents and neighbours were quick to check that my elderly nan was ok,” she said. “The police, ambulance and fire service were excellent. She’s touched at how many strangers have offered her their name and phone number just in case she needs anything.

“I just wanted to say on her behalf a huge thank you. It’s wonderful that there are so many lovely people living nearby and a special few who make her living in Ely enjoyable and safe.”
