Two boys who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A17 are out of intensive care.

Laura Pesterfield, who was in her 20s and from Boston, died in the smash involving a car and a lorry on Monday, December 21. Her nephews, who were in the car with her, were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Nikkita Pesterfield, the mother of the boys aged five and eight, said on social media: “The boys are doing an amazing job. Jayden is still drowsy but in a lot of pain and the same goes for Ellis, really. They’re both off their ventilators and breathing on their own and on a ward now.

“They’re in such good hands. We don’t know when we’re going to be home yet but it’s good news.”

Meanwhile, a petition calling for Norfolk County Council to build a roundabout at the Station Road junction, in Terrington St Clement, near King’s Lynn, where it happened, has collected more than 5,300 signatures.

North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham wants money to be no object when the council considers making improvements to the junction.

He said: “The county council and police must carry out a full and comprehensive investigation into the accident.

“We must also see what lessons can be learned from across the country, where there are junctions like this.”

Mr Bellingham said the layout of the junction was a problem, and the signs needed to be reviewed.

Tracy Jessop, the council’s assistant director of highways and transport, said: “We will continue to meet community representatives as the facts around this tragedy emerge.”
