NATURALIST and broadcaster, Mike Dilger, dropped in at Wicken Fen Nature Reserve on Saturday to view the development of the National Trust’s Wicken Fen Vision.
His visit formed part of a day-long visit to the county where he visited two pioneering habitat restoration projects; the Wildlife Trust’s, Great Fen Project and the National Trust’s, Wicken Fen Vision, both of whom have received grants from the Esm�e Fairbairn Foundation.
Both projects were recipients of a series of special ‘birthday grants’ made by the Esm�e Fairbairn Foundation in 2011 to mark its 50th anniversary. Since 2007, the Foundation has also funded a habitat and species monitoring project being undertaken by scientists from Anglia Ruskin University to monitor how Wicken Fen is changing as the Vision develops.
Launched in 1999, the Wicken Fen Vision is 100-year project by the National Trust to create a landscape scale nature reserve and green lung for Cambridgeshire and the East of England, covering 53 sq km, to the North of Cambridge.
