Fun and games included pass the parcel and turning mums into mummy’s by wrapping them in toilet paper.

There was plenty of food and drinks and a disco of children’s favourite sing-along’s mixed with pop tunes, provided by NJ Disco’s Nathan McCarthy which was enjoyed by more than 40 people at Witcham village hall.

Pre school committee chair Joanne Rose said: “The children all went home full of hot dogs and sweets, completely shattered and armed with glow-sticks and tattoos.

“All of the mummy’s and grandma’s also received a potted primula kindly supplied by Delfland Nurseries of Doddington.

“As a charitable organisation, our pre-school is run by a voluntary committee.

“We are responsible for the day-to-day organisation, and together with our manager, Michelle Willson, her deputy Helen Cooper, and play assistants Tracey, Caroline and Dot, provide the children with a great experience in a small and friendly setting.”

In 2014,it was rated as “good with outstanding features” by Ofsted which means they can accept funded two-year old children.

Only settings with a minimum “good” Ofsted rating can accept these children which Ms Rose said was very rare.

She said: “Due to the low birth numbers this year - we had only seven children in setting in September, now risen to 15 - and combined with the very low funding which is given to early years - Cambridgeshire is one of the lowest funded counties in the country - the setting is predicted to make a loss this year.

“The events we run to fund raise are vital to ensure children continue to benefit from the excellent staff to children ratios and receive the best possible pre-school experience.

“We hope that with better numbers in coming years together with careful management, we can reverse the predicted loss.”
