ELY trainee detective, Terry Bandoo, has been commended for the way he dealt with a suicidal man threatening to jump from a flyover onto the A14.
Dc Bandoo kept his cool as the distressed man refused to climb back to safety from the other side of the barrier.
The detective had been sent to the Fen Ditton flyover after a local doctor reported that the man had gone to the surgery very upset indicating that he intended to kill himself.
As police mounted a major operation, closing the road and calling in negotiators, Dc Bandoo calmly struck up a conversation with the man.
The police officer gently coaxed him back over the fence away from danger.
The man was later sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
On Monday Dc Bandoo was awarded a commendation by Cambridgeshire Police Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Rob Needle.
But Dc Bandoo, who was one of 11 officers receiving the awards, was unable to attend the presentation because he was away on his honeymoon in Mexico.
