A person has died after being struck by a train near Cambridge.

British Transport Police officers were called to the railway near Cambridge after reports of a casualty on the tracks at 1.33pm today (Thursday, July 22).

A BTP spokesperson said: "Paramedics attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Greater Anglia and CrossCountry trains between Ely, Cambridge, London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport were disrupted after the incident.

All lines reopened shortly before 4pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said: "Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption."
