TRAFFIC ground to a halt in Ely this morning (Monday) after a collision blocked one of the main routes into the city.

The smash happened at around 8.50am on the junction where Cambridge Road meets Barton Road with traffic brought to a near standstill as police rushed to the scene.

The two cars involved, a Vauxhall Vectra and Corsa, suffered extensive damage though there were no injuries to the drivers. Recovery crews were also called to the scene to help clear the vehicles from the road.
