A POLISH tractor driver has lost his job and his licence after he crashed his car into a ditch when he was nearly three times over the drink-drive limit.

Wojciech Panasiuk, 23, was involved in a two vehicle collision on February 3 which ended with his Peugeot 205 leaving the road and crashing into a ditch.

When police arrived and smelt alcohol on Panasiuk's breath, he admitted he had been drinking and he was breathalysed.

Panasiuk registered 96mgs of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit is 35mgs.

Mitigating, Michael Judkins said Panasiuk had been drinking at his former address in Stretham with a friend when he decided to go to Tesco in Ely to get some money from the cash machine.

"He can't turn the clock back but he wishes he could," Mr Judkins said. "He has never been in trouble before, here or in Poland, and he accepts the matter is his own fault."

Panasiuk has lost his job as a tractor driver at G's Marketing in Barway and he was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community with £100 costs.

He was disqualified for 24 months but chose to attend a rehabilitation course, reducing the ban to 18 months.
