An East Cambridgeshire councillor and her husband will face trial at Cambridge Magistrates Court next year after pleading not guilty to causing criminal damage to a 2015 Range Rover Sport.
Conservative councillor Carol Sennitt and her husband Christopher, both 58, appeared at the court this morning (Tue).
The offence is alleged to have happened in Ely on August 18 and 19. The charge sheet stated the extent of the criminal damage alleged to have been caused is to property “valued under £5,000”.
The court was told the names of the two men to whom the car belongs, Mark and Stewart Smith, and that the Sennetts are charged with “intending to destroy or damage such properly or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged”.
Dr Kilburton-Shaw, chair of the bench, said: “This case cannot be dealt with today and will be sent for trial in this court on May 1 2019. You will be expected to be here for 9.30am.” They both remain on unconditional bail.
CCTV footage of the alleged offence will be shown in court during the trial. Mark and Stewart Smith and a police officer are also expected to be present as witnesses.
Cllr Sennitt lives with her husband in Fordham Road, Soham, and won a seat on East Cambridgeshire in 2015.
