TWENTY-one-year-old Fordham man Michael Burrell was involved in a three-vehicle shunt because he was driving too fast and too close to the car in front of him.

Appearing before Ely magistrates on Thursday, he admitted driving carelessly outside the Devil's Dyke car park in Burwell on September 17. The car in front of Burrell hit a car waiting to turn right, said prosecutor Angela Sassoli, and Burrell then hit that vehicle.

"The driver waiting to turn into the car park believed the other two cars were racing each other," she added. "There was loud music blasting out."

Solicitor Mark Shelley said Burrell was not racing the other car, but was driving too fast and too close to the car in front of him. "He did not give himself enough time to brake," he added.

Burrell also admitted speeding on October 13, driving at 83mph along the A14 where a 70mph limit is in place. He was fined a total of £170 with £60 costs and eight points were put on his licence. As a probationary driver, he expects DVLA to revoke his driving licence.
