More than £5000 was raised by charity walkers who defied the blustery weather to take on the length of Ely southern bypass.
The new road - connecting the A142 at Angel Drove to Stuntney Causeway - saw hundreds turn out for the Walk the Bridge event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday.
Stewards from the charity helped make the event possible with organiser Ava Paice inviting donations from walkers to the charity.
King’s Ely stepped up to the challenge too, allowing use of their land for parking and providing a small fleet of mini buses to ferry the less able to the start of the walk and to return them afterwards to the car park.
Ava said: “The grand amount of £5046.43 was raised. We have been congratulated on the organisation of the day but that is due to and our thanks to King’s Ely, for allowing us to park on their playing field which they then supervised the parking on.
“Others held buckets, helped people to understand what they were looking at, controlled traffic and did a hundred and one other jobs.
“Most of all we thank Volker Fitzpatrick for allowing us to run this event.”
