MORE than 2000 pheasant chicks were killed in a fire at a farm in Soham on Sunday.

MORE than 2000 pheasant chicks were killed in a fire at a farm in Soham on Sunday.

The blaze take place at a farm on Barcham Road at about 9.30am with fire crews responding to reports of sheds on fire.

Two crews from Soham arrived to find that 11 sheds containing the chicks were ablaze and called for crews from Burwell and Ely to attend.

The crews used multiple hose reels to get the shed fire under control and also had to deal with a group of about a dozen nearby gas cylinders which had started to overheat in the blaze.

Firefighters had extinguished the flames by about 12.15pm but later discovered that 2500 pheasant chicks been unable to escape and died.

Fire investigators believe that the fire was started accidentally by heating equipment.
