A hunt is on for a man suspected of stealing £1,300 – including £600 that had been raised for charity- from an Ely pub.

A CCTV image of the man wanted for questioning in connection with the theft was released today by East Cambs Police.

A flat above The Kings Arms pub in St Mary’s Street was broken into at about 10.45am on Friday and £1,300 in cash was stolen.

A police spokesman said: “The offender entered the pub through a side door before going into the dwelling part of the property, taking the money then leaving through the same side door.

“The victim has been left upset by what has happened as £700 of the cash was for charity which had been raised through a pub quiz, and the remaining £600 was to pay staff wages.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
