Police have increased their presence in villages across East Cambridgeshire following a spate of bungalow burglaries.

Officers were called to three break-ins in Fordham, Soham and Swaffham Bulbeck – all within the same hour yesterday evening (August 2).

Thieves broke into a bungalow on Chippenham Road, Fordham, at around 5pm, stealing computer equipment, photography equipment, jewellery and a watch that belonged to a deceased parent.

Another bungalow on Fordham Road, Soham, was then targeted an hour later. Thieves broke in through a back door and stole cash and jewellery.

The final break-in - on High Street, Swaffham Bulbeck at around 7pm – saw more jewellery stolen – including a silver charm bracelet belonging to the owner’s deceased wife.

Sergeant Phil Priestley at Ely Police, said: “Burglary is one of the most exceptionally disturbing crimes to fall victim to. The loss of property which has a huge emotional value certain outweighs the physical value of the thefts in two of the crimes.

“House burglary remains an absolute priority issue for the constabulary and while it is rare to see a spate of this nature we will ensure that there is a first class response for all victims and any witnesses who approach us.
