MAGISTRATES jailed thief Christopher Griffin for four months on Thursday, after telling him that "his luck had run out."
Griffin had admitted that he stole a bottle of £19.99 aftershave from Boots in Ely the previous day, when already subject to a suspended sentence imposed for an offence of burglary.
"The point of a suspended sentence is that you go straight and stop offending, and earn your right to stay out of prison," said presiding magistrate Susan Griffiths.
"But you have offended twice, and enough is enough. You were lucky not to go to prison earlier, and today your luck ran out."
Griffin, 21, of The Barns, Littleport, went into the Boots store with another male on April 16, and removed a Joop aftershave from its box.
"CCTV picked up both men, and police were guided to them," said prosecutor Yetunde Fawehinmi.

Griffin dropped the aftershave on the ground, and admitted to police that he had stolen the item.
"He simply wanted the fragrance because he likes it," said solicitor Kevin Warboys. "On the spur of the moment he took it. He was picked up on CCTV, so was quickly detected. It was as short and simple a theft as one could conceive.
