An Ely woman has decided to help the homeless by opening up a soup kitchen.
The kitchen, at Olive Tree Fellowship in Silver Street, will be open every Friday evening from 6 to 8pm until the end of March.
The free to use soup kitchen will be staffed by volunteers from several different churches in the town.
Theresa Panton, soup kitchen coordinator, said: “It’s something that I have been thinking about for a long time.”
She added that she doesn’t think there are any other provisions of that sort for the homeless people in Ely.
“I had a word at church and they thought it was a good idea.
“It’s only one meal a week but hopefully it will help people a little bit. There will be one soup and one main meal available, such as stew and dumplings, chilli or curry”, Theresa added.
The soup kitchen will open next Friday.
