VIVA Youth Theatre held its annual award ceremony on Sunday at The Maltings in Ely.

Youth arts co-ordinator Martha Hazelden told the Ely Standard: "These awards are to recognise the hard work and achievements of all the young people who are members. Each of them received a certificate to mark their contribution to the group and a selection of cups and trophies were awarded to particular individuals."

These were given to them by the trustees and patrons of the Viva Youth Theatre, which included the actor Sheila Steafel who is also vice-president and also from the stage and screen, presidents Liza Goddard and Michael Fenton-Stevens.

The youngsters gave performances throughout the evening and those who attended also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Viva Youth Theatre with a birthday cake and The Maltings was specially decorated for the occasion.

Before they head off for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, there will be two more productions, Blood Brothers and Little Shop of Horrors. These will be performed from July 12-14 at Soham Village College.

INFO: Tickets are free, but there will be an opportunity to give donations and take part in a draw. Details from Martha Hazelden on 01353 722228.
