PEOPLE across the district looked to the skies as fireworks displays commemorated Bonfire Night.
Wilburton recreation ground hosted a magnificent display honouring the fallen heroes of the Battle of the Somme.
It was set to music and was designed to mark Remembrance Day as well as bonfire night.
Although there was no public firework display in Soham this year, the 2nd Soham Scouts held their own celebration at Brook House Motel.
Scouts in Soham and their families were asked to bring fireworks and were rewarded with free hot dogs from Mr and Mrs Day, who run the venue.
Saturday's fireworks fiesta in Cherry Hill Park, Ely, looks set to be the biggest and best display the city has seen.
Ely and District Round Table has signed up leading UK display team Battle Fireworks to light up the skies at the city's biggest annual fund-raising event, and it is hoped that a bigger display and added attractions will result in some of the largest crowds seen at the event - resulting in bigger payouts to local charity groups and good causes.
"We have stuck with our winning formula of holding the Ely display a week after most fireworks displays so as not to compete with similar local events," said Des Matthewson, on behalf of the organising committee.
As in previous years, every local school that delivers a guy to the event on the day is guaranteed to receive £50, with the best entry scooping a £150 first prize.
"The guy competition is very much part and parcel of the whole event and helps to involve local schools in what is truly a community event," said Mr Matthewson.
The organisers have appealed for people to buy their tickets in advance to reduce congestion at the gate. The event starts at 6.45pm with the display starting at 7.15pm.
INFO: Tickets are on sale from Nationwide Building Society, Market Square, Lloyds TSB branches in Ely and Soham, and David Baldock Dental Surgery, Broad Street. Adult £2.50, child £1.50, family £7 in advance, or adult £3 and child £2 on the gate.
