The Shade School at Soham celebrated the official opening of its new primary wing on Saturday with a family picinic.
The youngest and oldest children in the school: Luke from pre-school and Lois and Daniel from Year 3, cut the ribbon and unveiled a plaque to mark the wing’s opening. Six new classrooms, a staff room, after school club facilities and a meeting room, are all accommodated in the new building which was built to meet increased demand for primary places in the town.
At present The Shade has just the infant year groups but from September it will start to expand into primary with the current Year 3s moving into the new classrooms as Year 4. The school will not be taking on Years 5 and 6 pupils - they will gradually come on board as the current Year 3 pupils progress. The school will increase its reception intake from September.
Cambs and Peterborough Mayor James Palmer was among Saturday’s guests.
