CHAMPION grower Tony Primett triumphed at the Soham Pumpkin Fair on Saturday with a whopping pumpkin that weighed more than his grandson. At 128.51 kilos, the pumpkin was one of the biggest the pumpkin fair has seen but was dwarfed by the 2006 entry.

Jenny Fletcher, fair secretary, said: "The wet weather this summer didn't provide ideal conditions for growing pumpkins but we all had a great day."

Visitors from as far afield as France came to celebrate the harvest at the 33rd festival. They were entertained by a fleet of classic cars, the Boys Brigade Marching Band and members of the Soham Fenlander Majorettes.

It is not yet known how much money was raised at the event but profits will be split between the Soham Dive Club, Soham Twinning Association and Ely Roller Skating Club.
