SIXTY members and guests of the Ely and District Branch of the Korean Veterans Association enjoyed a dinner at the Masonic Hall in Silver Street to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the formation of the branch.
Guest of Honour, Col G Gadd (OBE) who is national chairman of the British Korean Veterans Association spoke not only of the Korean War but also of other conflicts since that time and of the role of the United Nations. He read a letter from a Korean law student expressing his gratitude on behalf of his family and future generations.
Col Gadd presented the branch with a commemorative shield to mark the 20th year since the branch was formed. He congratulated the branch on its continuing strength and commitment to both official functions and parades and to welfare work, not only in Ely but also in many parts of the UK and abroad. The branch endeavours to be represented at functions all over the UK and in other countries whose forces served under the banner of the United Nations. Since its formation, representatives from Ely and District branch have taken part in reunions and parades nation-wide, also in Korea, Turkey, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.
