PRESIDENT Sheila Knight welcomed members and guests to the annual meeting in the Mill View Room on Friday, March 2. Jerusalem was sung followed by the business of the evening. President Sheila Knight thanked the committee for their hard work throughout the year. Yvonne Long gave the secretary's report and Jennifer Langley the treasurer's report, which showed a healthy balance. The officers and committee were happy to continue for another year.

The highest points for entry in the monthly exhibition were Jennifer Langley - 53; Ann Gibbs - 52 and Jean Peacock - 43. Yvonne Long welcomed Stephen Brooks as the speaker for the evening. Stephen gave a heart-rending, but fascinating account of his escape from Burma at 11 years old. Stephen has written a book, which is no longer available in the shops but can be borrowed from the library. Members were invited to ask questions. Gwen Bridgeman thanked him on behalf of everyone. Refreshments were served and Sheila organised the raffle. The winner in the exhibition for war-time memorabilia was Jean Peacock.

The next meeting is on Friday, April 13, when the speaker will be Judith Keen.
