SUPERMARKET giant Tesco plans to reopen a city centre store.
The chain, which already operates a superstore in Ely, owns the vacant Woolworths site and plans to open an Express store.
Planning permission would not be needed by the chain to reopen as consent already exists for the site to be used for retail purposes. However, Tesco has submitted two planning applications to East Cambridgeshire District Council, which, if granted, would allow them to install a cash machine, change the premises ground-floor layout and shop front and install signs outside.
The plans will be considered next month.
