A DRUNKEN 15-year-old boy stole booze from a village shop when his supplies ran out, magistrates were told.

The youngster walked out of the One Stop store in Sutton with six cans of lager, along with some nuts, a magazine and a snack.

He had no money, and ignored shop staff who tried to confront him as he left with the stolen items.

Appearing before Ely youth court on Thursday, the teenager admitted stealing £8 worth of goods on March 28.

Before he went to the shop to steal, the youngster had been drinking alcohol at the home of an adult, said solicitor Michael Judkins.

"He would not have committed the offence if he had not been drinking," he added. "He is very sorry about it."

The boy, who has been banned from the store, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £8 compensation.
