A SPEEDING teenage driver was followed by a police car driving at between 50 and 60 mph through the centre of Ely late at night.

Officers involved in a dedicated vehicle crime busting operation first spied Danny Parker as he swerved right into Broad Street, without indicating.

"There were a number of people around," prosecutor Laura Mardell told city magistrates, "there is a night club nearby."

Police followed 18-year-old Stone-Parker as he sped along Broad Street, he drove on the wrong side of the road, and narrowly missed a parked van.

When Stone-Parker came to a halt in Sycamore Lane, he and his passengers ran into a nearby house, and the teenager was arrested.

Stone-Parker, of Clayway, Ely, admitted failing to stop for the police, driving without due care and attention, and driving without insurance or a licence.

"He did not stop for the police because he had no insurance, and knew if he got caught he would be in trouble," said solicitor Adam Haselhurst.

Sentencing was adjourned until October 2, for the probation service to prepare a report.
