A THREE-year driving ban was imposed on teenage motorist Benjamin Hustwayte this week, after he admitted giving a breath test reading almost three times the legal alcohol limit.

Hustwayte, of North Fen, Little Downham, was stopped by police after coming to a skidding halt in Ponts Hill at Littleport in the early hours of August 30, Ely magistrates were told.

He gave a breath test reading of 99 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath, when the legal limit is 35 mcgs

This was the second time the 18-year-old had been convicted for drink driving - back in November 2006 he was banned from driving for 18 months.

"He normally only uses his car for work, but did take it out this evening," said solicitor Claire Bennett. "He fully acknowledges there is no excuse for what he did."

Hustwayte will be supervised by the probation service for the next 12 months, and must pay £60 costs.
