After showing his work to nearly 2,000 visitors at the Babylon Gallery, Ely artist Ted Coney is re-opening his pop-up gallery for it’s 10th season.
Situated on Ely’s riverside, Ted’s gallery is located in the home he shares with his wife Hazel. All his paintings are about family life and relationships. He has been making art since 1969 and on each tour Ted – who retires after 52 years of teaching art in June - makes a selection of pictures to show to visitors.
Each tour lasts about an hour and needs to be booked in advance. The tours start with a short film and finish in Ted’s studio where visitors can see his latest work in progress.
Though no work is for sale, postcards and tour guides are available on request. Tours start at 2pm or 3pm on most Sundays.
“I am not seeing it as retirement, more as the start of a new career,” he said.
The gallery re-opens on Saturday April 29.
Tours can be booked through www.tedconeysfamilyportraits.co.uk or by emailing tedconey@btinternet.com or call 01353 650038.
