TEACHERS Jerry Dale, Kevin Shaw and Andy Thomas will cycle 100 miles a day to complete a charity bike ride this summer.

The trio from the King's School, Ely, will ride from John O'Groats to Land's End completing the trip in just 10 days.

They have special reasons for choosing to support leading charities, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Last year, Kevin's newborn daughter, Chloe, underwent life-saving operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital and in October, the head of the King's School, Sue Freestone, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is recovering and was back at her desk before Christmas.

Now 60 members of staff - 12 teams of five - have signed up to cover the ride distance over eight weeks, either by running or rowing and the school's fitness machines.

Each team member paid an entry fee and everyone aims to raise 'out of school' sponsorship so that a sizeable sum can be presented to Andy, Jerry and Kevin to get their fund-raising off to a flying start.

Andy said: "We hope to attract sponsorship from individuals and businesses. We also hope some Friends of King's might join us for one or more of the legs and get some personal sponsorship."

Anyone interested can log on to: www.ke2e.co.uk for sponsorship details and training updates.
