Ely came alive over the bank holiday weekend thanks to a tastebud tingling continental market.

The market, which was organised by international market event operators Savoir Fayre, included stalls selling French, British, Spanish and Italian goods as well as jewellery handmade from Baltic amber.

Among the items on sale were French charcuterie and cured meat, French cheeses, saucisson, crepes, bread and snacks, Spanish paella and fajita, Moroccan couscous and confectionery.

The market also featured Italian clothing, accessories, jewellery and crafts, along with soap from Marseille, glass, china, pottery and garden furniture.

Emma Grima, director of commercial and corporate services, said before the event: “There will be something for all the family – whether you want to try out delicious continental foods or buy a special gift.

“The atmosphere is always great and there is plenty of interest for everyone, whatever their taste.”

The Continental Market was part of Ely Markets’ “Love Your Local Market” celebrations - a national campaign highlighting the best that markets have to offer.
