LOCALS will be flying high for Marie Curie Cancer Care next month when the charity teams up again with the Cambridgeshire Microlight Club in Sutton for the fifth Annual Flying Gala.

Pilots from all over the country will be flying in to offer flights and provide aerobatic displays.

Organisers have promised a fun-filled family day out with plenty of attractions to bring in the crowds.

Music will come from the Ely Samba Band and two boy bands, The Next Attempt and FATE.

All the proceeds will go towards the local Marie Curie nurses who care for people with cancer and give respite to their families.

Marie Curie's fundraising manager, Karen Chesney, said: "This event has raised nearly £7,000 since it started in 2003. We are dependant on the generosity of local people and members of the club, giving up their time.

"Local businesses have again been very generous in donating food and raffle prizes and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped and urge people to come along and enjoy the day."

There will be a barbecue, bar, cream teas and entertainment in the main arena and the afternoon will end at 5pm with the grand raffle draw.

Marie Curie nurse, Donna Morgan, said: "For every person and their family we help, there are always more waiting for our services - it is only by fundraising events such as this, that we can try to support more families in the local community. I will be at the gala myself helping support this fantastic day."

The gala will take place at Cambridgeshire Microlight Club's airfield at Sutton Meadows on Sunday, September 2, with gates opening to the public at noon.

Entrance is only £5 per car and the airfield is well signposted from most of the major road routes.
