SYLVIA Chivers bade an emotional farewell to colleagues and residents this week after 32 years as a care home manager in Soham.
Starting out at Herewood House in 1980, Sylvia helped ensure the day-to-day running of care homes in the town for more than three decades, ending up at Millbrook House for the last two years of her career.
On Thursday, more than 150 well-wishers gathered for a surprise retirement party at Millbrook House, where Sylvia, 65, said her goodbyes.
Speaking to the Ely Standard, Sylvia, who lives in Clay Street, said: “It was a fantastic surprise party and I’m really going to miss everyone. I’m looking forward to going on holiday now and then coming back and spending more time with family.”
