YOUNG swimmers from Ely Swimming Club received a whopping cheque for more than £300 from the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme.

The monthly scheme invites shoppers to vote for one of three local good causes using their shopping tokens, with the swimming club drawing enough votes to earn them a grant total of £311.

Simon Yeates Ely ASC chairman said: “Can I pass on my thanks from all the swimmers to both Waitrose and the local community for their generous support. The money will be put to good use by purchasing new training equipment.”
