It is believed that the swan, found by a member of public in Anchor Lane, Burwell on Friday September 4, was shot by someone using an airgun.

The RSPCA is appealing for anyone to come forward with information about the crime.

RSPCA inspector Richard Lythgoe, said: “Unfortunately we see far too many cases of swans with air gun pellet injuries - it just seems completely senseless.

“This swan was part of a breeding pair and the cygnets are now at significant risk because of this cruel and cowardly act and I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible.”

If you have any information about the attack, call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
