Sutton boxer Tyler Goodjohn raised over £3,500 for a cause close to his heart earlier this month – by getting punched for two-and-a-half hours straight.

The professional fighter, who has won 13 of his 18 fights so far, raised a whopping £3,560 by pulling on his trusty gloves and headgear and putting himself through 50 rounds of sparring against friends and family at his Wentworth-based gym, El Warrior’s Workshop, on September 2.

The money raised will go the family of his cousin, Charlie Fitt, who passed away this summer aged 15 after a battle with LRBA deficiency, a rare genetic disease which can lead to bowel psoriasis, thyroid disease, diabetes and infections.

Tyler said: “It’s a fantastic amount of money and over our expected goal so we are very pleased.

“The day itself went better than we could have imagined and everyone jumped in and did a round.

“It was a huge success and a very tiring day personally but a great challenge and I’m very proud that I did it.”

Each round of the gruelling challenge was sponsored and Tyler went up against friends and family of all ages – including his dad, Richard – non-stop for over two hours.

He also hosted a raffle and a BBQ which contributed towards the day’s impressive total.

“I want to thank everyone who came down and sparred with me,” Tyler added.

“I also want to thank everyone who gave up their afternoon to come and show their support and everyone who donated online to my JustGiving page.

“The raffle we put on had some amazing prizes kindly donated by so many local shops and people and special thanks go to my mum and dad who did everything to make the day go as well as possible and for putting on a brilliant BBQ whilst I got punched about!”

Goodjohn, who beat prospect Adam Barker in July after nearly a year out of the ring, is expected to fight again early next year.

There is still time to donate to Tyler’s JustGiving page. Donations are being taken until Wednesday (September 20).
