CHAIRMAN John Groves welcomed members to the February meeting when the speaker Alan Moores gave an interesting talk with slides, music and readings on Fenlandia - as the edge of the Fens are called. Tuesday, May 15, meeting with Hemingford Grey Garden Club and the subject is the Old Vicarage Gardens at East Ruston. Contact John on 01353 778527 or Janet on 01353 778337 if you would like to go. As the first field trip organised by Alan Newman was a great success he has organised several more for the next few months.
For information, contact Alan on 01353 777435 or better still join the society for £3 single, or £5 couple/family and get all the news in our newsletter. We have been planting bluebells and clearing around shrubs at the Old Play Copse on the old recreation ground. Sadly there is still at lot of dog fouling there. We would urge dog owners to clear up after their dogs so this place can be pleasant for everyone. The next talk is today (Thursday) at the Pavilion at 8pm and is on farmland birds and will be given by Nick Carter.
On April 19, the archaeology team is giving an update on the dig and also sightings of wildlife at the site. The society is proud to be involved with the Glebe Garden Project and wishes to congratulate the Youth Group for managing to secure a large grant for the project.
