A Wilburton mum is urging people who are thinking about trading in their old mobile phones to donate them to a Down’s syndrome support group instead.

Michelle Clark says that 187 old mobiles could be swapped for an iPad which would be used by the Stepping Stones support group to help the learning and development of youngsters with Down’s.

Steeping Stones was set up in 2010 by Alison Watson and, despite being based in Huntingdon, Michelle, husband Ben and her daughter Mara regularly attend group meetings to enjoy the support on offer.

To help improve the range of learning tools available to the youngsters, the group requires as many mobile phone as it can get its hands on, and donation boxes are beginning to pop up across the county.

Michelle said: “The mobile phone collection is to swap for iPads for all the children at Small Steps and is a scheme offered by a charity called Hearts and Minds.

“This means we need to collect 187 mobile phones for one iPad for one child in the group, so we need a lot. We have some collection boxes dotted all over the region where each of the families lives, I have one at Twenty Pence Garden Centre in Wilburton and am working on some more in Ely area.”

If you would like to help, pop your old mobile into Twenty Pence Garden Centre, in Wilburton.
