A Brownie group from Ely is taking part in a fun-filled world record attempt with children’s television show Blue Peter to create the world’s longest superhero cape.
The 2nd Haddenham Brownies is one of 100 Girlguiding groups across the UK taking part in the challenge which will celebrate the positive difference they make in their community.
The Brownies have been busy putting the finishing touches to a colourful ‘spot’ which will adorn the enormous cape – predicted to measure a record-breaking 44 metres long.
The finished cape, decorated with 100 spots created by Girlguiding groups across the UK, will be unveiled live on Blue Peter on November 12 to mark Children in Need.
Girls from 2nd Haddenham Brownies decided to decorate their spot with example of the inspiring community work they have led, including raising over £300 for Guides Dogs For The Blind, holding events for Cancer Research and organising a Comic Relief Danceathon.
Lily Hooker, 9 who is a member of 2nd Haddenham Brownies, said: “I enjoyed thinking about the things we have done at Brownies to help other people and deciding what to put on our spot. The final spot was brilliant and I can’t wait to see it on Blue Peter.”
Charlotte Buttress, 11, who helps out with 2nd Haddenham Brownies, said: “The Brownies had so many ideas for the spot. We included lots of drawings that show the things we do at Brownies for our community, while having lots of fun!”
