Sugar beet thrown through elderly woman’s windscreen

AN elderly driver needed eye surgery after a sugar beet was thrown though her car window around midnight on Saturday last week. The 72-year-old was showered with glass and the sugar beet landed on her lap.

She was driving on the A1101 near Littleport towards Wisbech at around 11.50pm.

The assailants approached in an on-coming car with full-beam headlights. The pensioner has had surgery to remove glass from her eye but has been told that some shards remain and both eyeballs have been scratched.
