More than 500 students took part in a careers day organised by the Ely Schools Partnership and Ely College.

Students were given the chance to meet with businesses and organisations to explore the different career opportunities available to them.

In the morning Year 5 students from local primary schools had an opportunity to visit each stand and take part in activities with an interactive theme.

In the afternoon Year 8 and 9 students from Ely College talked to exhibitors to gain an insight into the world of work.

Richard Spencer, principal of Ely College, said: “We were delighted to be involved in the organisation of this fantastic event. “Understanding what you need to achieve and do to pursue different types of careers is vitally important, especially at an early age.

“We hope it will help inspire the future generations of Ely and the surrounding area.”

Janice Townsend, Ely Schools Partnership co-ordinator, said: “The event was a great success and we hope our young people went away with a sense of ambition and a clearer idea of the sorts of things they can and might like to do in the future.

“Thank you to Ely College for hosting the event and to our sponsors, The Ely Community Unit Trust and the Rotary Club of Littleport, for their help and support.”
