The mouse was brought along by staff from Wood Green Animal Shelter who spoke to a group of youngsters about looking after their pets and the work that the shelter, based in Godmanchester, carries out for injured or abandoned pets.

The children were given the opportunity to handle Stuart before turning their hands to making toys for pet cats and other small animals using just a handful of household items.

Wood Green’s education assistant Jenny Metson then answered questions from the group about her work and offered tips for keeping their own pets healthy and happy.
