Members of Stretham Youth Centre travelled to the Guildhall in Cambridge to collect a High Sheriff’s Award for Construct.
Construct enables young people to become volunteers at the centre and in the wider community and training is given to the young people, as well as the opportunity to get involved in village projects, such as the Famers Market and annual Feast celebrations.
Janet Parish, chairman of the Stretham Youth Centre, which has been running in the village since 1972, said: “It’s great that the young people are getting recognition for the positive input they have in the community, too often this is overlooked. We look forward to seeing how this project develops.”
The High Sheriff’s Award Scheme was established in Cambridgeshire over 10 years ago to support charitable work. It recognises achievement and give grants to projects involving young people in positive activities which benefit the community.
