Stretham Sporting FC has donated the money raised from their Christmas Eve raffle to a homeless support organisation based in Cambridge.

The Lucky Squares fundraiser was well supported by the community and several prizes were donated by local businesses.

At £1 per square almost 1,000 ‘lucky squares’ were snapped up.

Stretham Sporting FC is a community club that has benefited from others’ support which is why the club donates 10 per cent of profits from the Lucky Squares raffle to a local charity each year.

This year Jimmy’s, which is based in Cambridge and provides beds, food and support for homeless people, was the chosen charity.

Henry Brown, chief executive of Jimmy’s said “Our thanks go to Stretham Sporting for the donation.

“The service we provide to over 350 homeless guests each year in their transition from street floor to a sustainable front door is dependent on valued contributions such as this.”

Mick Lazarus, chairman of Stretham Sporting FC, said: “I know how hard Henry and his team work.

“I am impressed and humbled by the dedication they show to what is a really important cause.”
