TALENTED Stretham based cheerleading team The Pink Panther Pride travelled to Blackpool at the weekend to compete in the Northern Classic Cheeerleading competition, and were thrilled with their results.

The 18-strong squad came second in the mini dance section for the under 8s, and were placed fourth in the junior hip hop competition for under 14s.

Coach Selina Davenport said: “I am so proud of my cheerleaders. We have only been competing for a short time, and this was just our second competition.

“We are a really tiny squad. We took just 18 competitors, with some of our team competing in three different categories against very large squads who have been competing together for years.

“Our youngest member is four and our oldest is 17. We are a tiny club, most clubs have more than 30 cheerleaders in their squad. This was a very large competition attracting competitors from all around the country, and we did very well indeed.”
