A Stretham man whose passion for cycling helped him overcome a serious liver condition has taken on a new challenge.

Simon Webb has this year taken over as editor of cycling magazine VeloVision and now wants to help others to transform their lives using the sport.

The former England Hockey volunteer was diagnosed with a serious liver disease in 2012 but says that cycling helped him make a full recovery in just six months.

He said: “I’m looking forward to giving back to an activity that has given me so much.

“The response to VeloVision being back has been fantastic. We’ve had hundreds of emails of support, contact through social media and lots of former subscribers as well as new ones getting involved.

“It’s clear there is a demand out there for this sort of publication – both online and in print.”

Founded in 2000, VeloVision is read in 52 counties and was accessed by 92 countries in June, July and September.

It took a brief hiatus earlier in the year but is now back and is looking for donations so it can continue to grow. The website’s online fundraising page has raised £2,890 but hopes to hit £5,000 by November 1.

“We need to raise funds to grow, expand and continue to publish cutting edge, high quality content,” Simon added.

“Initially I want to get the print run going again. Beyond that I want to expand the digital offering. The YouTube channel was launched recently and has amassed nearly 19,000 views in the first two months.

“I want to continue to cater for those who love innovative design. I also want to expand coverage of family and disability cycling news, products and features. VeloVision can be for anyone who “lives cycling”.

The rewards available for supporting VeloVision include annual print or digital subscriptions and official merchandise.

VeloVision specialises on delivering news, reviews and features on recumbent bikes, cargo bikes, disability adapted machines, velomobiles, trikes, folding bikes and e-bikes amongst many others.
