More than £850 has been raised of the £5,500 needed by a protest group in their latest bid to stop Amey from building a £200 million waste treatment facility in Waterbeach.

Cambridge Without Incineration Residents Association (CBWIN) hopes to commission an independent landscape review as part of their campaign to halt approval being given for the new incinerator.

The application is now with the county council: Amey expects two thirds of the 250,000 tonnes that the plant will be capable of dealing with will come from within Cambridgeshire.

An 18-year-old member of CBWIN has penned her thoughts on a crowd funding page set up to raise the cash needed for the landscape review.

“I am probably one of the youngest supporters of CBWIN,” writes Jasmine Seamarks. “The size of the planned 250,000 tonne incinerator on the outskirts of our village is massive, ignoring the 80 meter stack the main building will be 40 meters high.

“The building will be right next to the new planned housing development and right across the road from Denny Abbey an English Heritage site.”

She added: “The A10 cycle path is already dangerous for us cyclists and the extra lorries coming from as far as Yorkshire will make cycling down the A10 even worse. “I will be nearly 60 when this project closes in 40 years time, the size of this monster worries me. We need your help to raise funds.”

Jasmine is well known in the area having won a bronze medal as part of a mixed relay team at the Deaflympics in Turkey last year.
