A SELF-employed carpenter caught driving without insurance in Swaffham Bulbeck escaped a driving ban this week.
Egidijus Maciulis told Ely magistrates that he could not work if was unable to drive, and would lose his house when he could not pay his mortgage.
With six points already endorsed on his licence for speeding, Maciulis could have been banned from the road for six months under the "totting up" procedure that comes into effect when a driver collects 12 or more points on his licence.
Maciulis, 33, of Chatham, admitted that he had no insurance for a Peugeot car he drove on December 8 last year. He was fined £300 with £35 costs and six points were added to his driving record.
