THE world famous Quaker Tapestry will be displayed in Ely Cathedral early next year, and volunteers are needed to help steward the exhibition.
The beautifully embroidered tapestry that includes 77 panels illustrating the history of Quakerism will be on display in the Lady Chapel from January 31 to February 29.
A film and audio guides are available so visitors can get information about the tapestry that was created by 4,000 men and women from 15 countries. There will also be children’s activities, a gift shop, and a chance to see embroiderers working.
Since it was completed 20 years ago, the tapestry has been on show at 150 different venues around the UK, Europe and America.
While the tapestry is in Ely, the exhibition will be supervised by staff from the tapestry’s Lake District home in Kendal; but local volunteers are also needed to work shifts between 10am and 1pm, and from 1pm to 4pm. The free exhibition will be open daily, except Sundays.
