King’s Ely pupils and members of the local community got the chance to showcase their musical theatre skills to one of the biggest names in the business - West End star Kerry Ellis.

Kerry, who has performed in hit musicals Cats, Wicked, Les Miserables and Oliver, shared her experiences of the stage, as well as her warm-up techniques at the school’s final instalment of their acting master class workshops.

She then went on to give feedback on students’ renditions of classic musical theatre numbers, before taking to the stage herself to perform ‘I Dreamed A Dream,’ from Les Miserables – which is also the school’s next musical offering.

The master class was the last of a series that ran over the academic year which gave students the opportunity to learn about musical theatre, comic timing, acting for TV and film, stage combat and devising.

Nick Huntington, Director of Drama and Theatre at King’s Ely, said “Kerry is a legend in the industry. Her advice was invaluable for the students and her performance of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ was worth the ticket price alone.
