Staff and members of East Cambs District Council lined up to celebrate when 30 of the council staff were awarded commendations for achieving the highly-rated Investors In People awards.

The employees have not only achieved the IIP standard at their first attempt for the quality and enthusiasm of their training efforts, but the council has also been nominated to become an official IIP champion and serve as an outstanding example to other councils.

The coveted champion status is usually only awarded to organisations after they have been working for several years to achieve the IIP standards. But the IIP assessors said East Cambs had been one of the best local authorities they had ever visited and merited champion status immediately.

East Cambs chief executive John Hill said: "Winning the award in itself is not only a great achievement, but has also given us a valuable insight into our strengths. We are very proud of our staff for whom the IIP assessors had such praise."
