Fire crew at Ely will wash their way to fund raising success when they hold a charity car wash at their station.

Liam Mountford is organising the event to tie in with a national car wash day where fire crews across Britain not only clean cars for the Firefighters Charity but also compete to see who can raise the most money in a day.

The Ely event is on Saturday September 30 at the city fire station in Egremont Street from 11am to 3pm.

Take along your cars, vans, bikes, mobility scooters and they will clean it as good as new for you for a good cause.

Every year hundreds of fire stations across the UK compete against each other to wash as many cars as possible and raise money for the charity while competing for the coveted national car wash league crown.

The last national event raised more than £269,000 earlier this year.

In 2015/16 the charity supported 5,107 individuals – three per cent more than in 2014/15.
